How do birds sleep?
I asked myself this question one evening, sitting on my balcony facing Mama Magnolia — my big tree, an evergreen and reliable trace of nature in the concrete jungle. Tireless and generous mother of flowers, fruits, and countless dead leaves.
This series is an ongoing visual journey into our search for connection with nature in urban life. Research shows what our bodies and souls already know: functioning urban ecosystems lower stress, improve air and water quality, conserve biodiversity, regulate temperatures, foster social cohesion, and nurture our wellbeing. Even a glimpse of green can slow the heartbeat and ease the mind.
All images are taken in urban and peri-urban environments, where our attempt to control and own nature meets her unconditional presence. Visually, they draw upon the natural elements within us: how we mirror the trees in their cycles, the seasons in their turning, and the waters in their endless flow. Bound to the larger rhythms of the living world.
